Al Ain zoo
This weekend we went to Al Ain with Thomas,
Claudia and Sara so that Stephen and Thomas could do some fieldwork. This left Claudia, Sara and myself to amuse ourselves - not very hard when you have gorgeous weather and 3 swimming pools around the hotel.
Even so we made it out of the hotel to take a visit to Al Ain zoo. This was much better than I expected with generally moderate to big cages, although some of the huge snakes must have been longer than their enclosures if they ever unwound themselves.
The zoo is undergoing a major overhaul. It now
contains only animals able to withstand this climate, so gone are the penguins (not sure where to) and in are hundreds of gazelle and oryx.
With an entrance fee of only 10 Dhs (£1.40) including train ride to see the big cats, it was well worth a few hours if you are in Al Ain. Only avoid going when it is mid-day and 40 degrees during ramadan!
