Tagged 2 - Great Great British Things

OK Enid, after quite a bit of thinking I have opted for 5 things that you don't know are really great about Great Britain until you are no longer living there. Hope this meets the tagging criteria!

1) The smell of the plants. I'm not talking about 'sniffing the roses' I'm talking about the pervasive smell of vegetation that wafts towards you as you disembark from the plane. You really don't relise just how nice GB smells until you've lived away. Top veggie smell? Easy. Freshly cut grass.

2) Fish and chips. OK, I know I'm a veggie so the fish is really not for me. I'm more of a mushy pea fritter man myself. But they really just do not taste the same in any other country regardless of how much you spend on them and how 'ye-oldy-authenticity-puby' the recipe is. Smashing!

3) Frost. Oh come on, it's great. It makes everything all sparkly and pretty. Well nice. Not talking black ice here though. That is not very nice at all.

4) Country pubs by rivers on summer nights. I don't think that this one needs justifying!

5) Independent book shops. You know? Those little back street places that manage to keep up the good fight against the likes of Borders and Waterstones. The kind of place you can, quite literally, get well and truly lost in whilst discovering some treasure. This definitely includes second hand book shops.

Right, that's your lot. I tag........Paul......

Comments:
Its ok Rog ill just put my response in the comments, if I am the Paul to which you refer. If not, I'm adding them anyway :-)

Great things about the UK

01. Courteous Drivers on well planned roads.
02. Many varied things to do on a weekend or even a weekday other than drinking.
03. Affordable housing, none of this Dhs 2.5m for a shoe box in a sand pit.
04. Different shops in malls.
05. Heritage.
06. Clean air (where I'm from anyway)
07. Castles.
08. Trains and other forms of transport other than cars.
09. The National Lottery and other forms of gambling.
10. Forests.
11. Real Ale.
12. Mountains.
13. Decent internet connection where Skype etc isn't blocked.
14. Sky TV
15. Pork / Alcohol products in a supermarket, not tucked away in a broom closet through an unmarked door.

...and many more, those were just the first 15 that came to mind. Lots of them are weather dependent though.
